In kids soccer drills, I’m not sure if you know this but someone who’s familiar with the game of soccer knows the importance of dribbling. It’s the ability of the player to move around in the ground with the ball and simultaneously keep it with him. To begin with, kids are trained on this very skill of dribbling.
But the question is how important are the dribbling skills? For your kids to become experts in dribbling skills, it’s best to have them do regular drills. As a result the kids learn the fundamentals to move with the ball in field. Dribbling the ball by keeping it close to you is used to develop the ability to get ahead of several opponents without losing control of the ball.
Learn by heart these basic tricks like playing with the ball in order to become a great dribbler. Kids soccer drills coach the kids to use the surface of their foot. Kids will often use the face of their instep, especially in case of dribbling the ball at a fast pace.
Yet, the kids must know the art of using the interior and exterior of both their feet on way to be good dribblers. In this manner, the kids can manage the possession of the ball regardless of the pressure from the opposite team. Also teach them to use both sides of the foot, like a hockey stick.
In soccer drills for kids, make sure kids touch the ball with every move it makes in the field. Keep the ball ahead of you when you dribbling it. This allows the young players to take good control and increase the dribbling speed with the ball.
This has the effect of eluding the defenders when they try to get close to the ball to capture it. So initiate step by step and make it certain that kids are increasingly feeling associated with the ball in each step.
In youth soccer drills continue to adjust the speed of ball while teaching kids. It’s not necessary for the kids to be exceptionally fast to beat the opponent on the dribble. Alternatively, get the defender to slumber a little and move past the opponent at high speed.
Guide the kids to constantly keep an eye on the ball. While dribbling kids must remain aware of the events in the filed and pay attention on the ball simultaneously.
Help them improve upon their weak foot. Soccer drills for youth should include continuous striking of the ball against a wall using the bad foot which will help them improve slowly. Guide the kids to play with the soccer ball when they get time. Guide the kids to just spin the ball backward and forward with the help of the weaker foot even when they are sitting. The more they do it, the more they will be able to control the ball.
So, you’ve got it now! In kids soccer drills, they should be taught to guard the ball with their body. The ball should be saved using the body when the defender approaches it. For more such tips on dribbling and other soccer coaching techniques, enroll for our youth soccer coaching community.
